For the WEST Smart Film Installation Instructions video tutorial, please watch the first video on the Video Smart Film page .

Required Tools

To install your smart film, gather the following tools: spray bottle, scraper, glue gun, razor scraper, ruler, windshield washer fluid, adhesive tape, self-adhesive paper, and a cleaning cloth.

Pre-Installation Preparation

  1. Remove the smart film from its packaging.
  2. Test the smart film while it is powered on to ensure functionality.
  3. Compare the smart film’s specifications or included diagram with the on-site measured dimensions of your glass to confirm compatibility.

Cleaning the Installation Area and Grooves

  1. Thoroughly clean the floor and surrounding environment. Mist the air to reduce dust, minimizing construction debris as much as possible.
  2. Carefully clean the grooves around the entire installation position to remove dirt and debris.

Cleaning the Glass Surface

  1. Evenly spray windshield washer fluid onto the glass surface where the smart film will be installed. Perform a preliminary cleaning, then wipe away excess fluid.
  2. Respray the glass with windshield washer fluid, then use a razor scraper to carefully clean the entire surface and all edges.
  3. Scrape multiple times to remove bumps, dirt spots, and any residual adhesive from the glass.
  4. Repeat the cleaning process from Step 1 once or twice to ensure the glass is completely clean.
  5. Dry the glass surface thoroughly with a cleaning cloth.
  6. Soak a cleaning cloth in alcohol, then use it to wipe away dust from the adhesive side of the smart film.

Applying the Smart Film to the Glass

  1. Before starting, verify that the glass surface and surrounding environment meet the smart film’s installation requirements.
  2. Unfold the smart film vertically.
  3. Place the film labeled “FIRST STEP” on the glass, pre-position it, and secure it with adhesive tape.
  4. Once the position is confirmed, peel back a portion of the release film from top to bottom along one edge.
  5. Remove the positioning tape, then double-check the film’s position before proceeding to apply it.
  6. Use a scraper to apply the smart film to the glass, smoothing it out as you go.
  7. Removing the hard coating film and applying the smart film must be done simultaneously.
  8. Mark any impurities (e.g., dust, debris) encountered during the process.
  9. Remove impurities using a blade, adhesive tape, or similar tools.
  10. Complete the positive film process as directed.

Connecting Busbars and Wires (Optional)

  1. Bond wires to the copper mesh.
  2. Use a knife to trim away excess copper mesh.
  3. Apply transparent insulating tape over the busbar area to secure and insulate.

Power-On Testing & Sealing

  1. Turn off the power, then turn it back on to test the smart film’s functionality.
  2. Apply sealing adhesive along the edges of the installed smart film to seal and protect it.

Maintenance Guidelines

  1. Do not move the glass for 3 days after installing the smart film.
  2. Avoid cleaning the film-coated glass with water for 15 days post-installation.
  3. Do not use suction cups or adhesives to hang, secure, stick, or decorate any objects on the film-coated glass.
  4. To clean the film: Spray anhydrous alcohol or acetone evenly onto the film surface, then use a clean, soft cotton cloth or cleaning cloth to gently dry the glass. Alternatively, dip a clean, soft cloth in anhydrous alcohol or acetone and scrub stains directly.
  5. To remove residual adhesive from installation: Follow the same method as Step 4—use a clean, soft cotton cloth dipped in acetone to gently scrub the contaminated area.
  6. Do not use hard scrapers, brushes, or cleaning cloths with sand particles to clean the film-coated glass, as these can damage the film.
